The kind you buy at the pet store is expensive and the ingredients seem pretty simple. Any ideas?

I have researched this question for years and finally found something that works! I have been using this method for 3 years now and am still amazed with the results.

If the area is still wet you should soak up as much of the urine as you can with paper towel or regular towel. I recommend placing several layers of paper towels over the stain and lightly walking over it to really get as much moisture up as you can. Repeat this until no more moisture can be pulled up.

The next step is to mix a solution of 50% vinegar to 50% water. You must use a liberal amount of the solution to reach the carpet fibers deep down. Work the solution in with a scrubbing brush to make sure in penetrates all the carpet fibers. Then blot the area again with paper towel method above. This area must now be left to dry completely.

When the area has completely dried sprinkle a good handful of baking soda over the area. mix up half a cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of ordinary dishwashing detergent. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and slowly pour the mixture over the baking soda. Work the dissolving soda well into the carpet, first with your fingers and then with a scrubbing brush. Allow the solution to dry once again.

After the solution has dried vacuum the area thoroughly. Test you carpet for color fastness in an inconspicuous area first. You can use water instead of the hydrogen peroxide, but it does not work nearly as well because the peroxide completely dissolves the baking soda, allowing it to penetrate the fibers of the carpet better. Water doesn’t dissolve nearly as well.

You can use this on dry spots as well. You may have to repeat on heavily soiled spots.

Good luck!

I have a dog (mainly white hair) and a cat (black-haired) so my clothes are constantly covered with their hair! It’s annoying, because even when they come right out of the dryer after being washed, they still have hair on them. What is the best lint roller or other remover you have used to take pet hair off of your clothes? Thanks!

I have 3 golden retrievers – so I know all about hair!

I just use those sticky roller things – but we have them all over the house. I keep one on a shelf in the garage, so we can all roller off before we get in the car for work. They work well, are cheap, and you can keep them everywhere!

I’m helping my brother prepare his house to put on the market. In the bathroom is a dark green carpet that has noticeable urine stains, which are old. Does anyone have any ideas? Dyeing products, anything that could help lessen the ugly factor other than buying new carpet. Thanks for the help!

Technically, if there is a seller’s disclosure law in your State, it has to be declared unless you completely remove the carpet, pad, and other effected areas. But if you choose not to do that, get some nature’s miracle and pour it on. It takes up to 30 days for the little enzymes to work. It will get rid of the odor… at least enough for you to put your nose in the carpet and take a big wiff. You get rid of the smell, and most buyers tear out the carpet within 6 months of owning anyways..LOL. But it is a bathroom, rip the carpet out and clean up the floor and lay some stick vinyl tiles down. Cheap fix and a lot better than carpet in that room and updating all in one!

I have been using it on my new puppy’s accidents but he still smells his scent and keeps going in the same area? It definitely works as far as my nose is concerned but not his! It’s driving me crazy!

Hi,

The best product I have found is Stink Free.

1. Eliminates all odors, even those only pets can smell.
2. Reasonably priced and available at Pet Smart or online.
3. Big bonus: leaves behind a very pleasant scent

I have two cats. My oldest one has not been using her litter box now that I have brought another cat into the home. For the time being I need a product that gets rid of the stains and odors that she is leaving around I have tried a few different products, but they are just not working. Please help!

Nature’s Miracle, hands down. It’s amazing, and they make a formula specifically for cats.

To solve the litter box issue though, you might want to obtain another litter box- the rule of thumb is 1 box per cat plus another box, so you should have three, total.

Also! To calm things down in your house and help your cats adjust, you might think about getting some Feliway spray. It’s been clinically proven to help frustrating "cat keeps peeing outside the box" issues.

I have little pet stains all over my carpet from my new chihuahua puppy. I need to know the best tried and true product that I can by from Petco (or similiar place) that REALLY works. Thanks for your help!!

I learned this from a vet years ago. Immediately wipe up the area. Then pour WHITE vinegar on the area, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and then using towel put pressure to remove the vinegar and rub to remove the stain. The vinegar takes out the smell, too, so the puppy will not go back to the same place. What is left you can use Resolve (you can buy anywhere like CVS, Lowe’s, Albersons), that works great. I had a dog with pancreatis (vomit and poop issues) and never and a stain or smell.

Also recommend as you housetrain the baby you limit the areas he can access. Immediately when he wakes up, eats, etc., but he outside. Praise praise praise. He is a baby and like a human his body has to mature before he can hold his potty so dont get mad. Also take him out the same door each and every time, the one he will use as a grown dog.

have some questions for those who have used this. I just used pets and kids to get a urine smell out of my matress. How long will it take to dry?
can I sprinkle baking soda on top?
should my son and i be in while its drying? the solution is kinda strong and im in a studio apartment.
was this product successful with any of you?.

I only need responses on this brand. Has anyone used Pets and Kids Solution, please respond!

It takes about the same amount of time as water would take to dry.

I’ve never noticed any adverse symptoms from fumes (I’ve used it several times), but there is no sense in unnecessary exposure.

I wouldn’t sprinkle baking soda on anything wet. I think you’d have hard soda clumps for your efforts. Although, you could experiment with an old towel and see what happens..

It has been a successful product for me.

I’ve already tried petzyme with no avail. Your answers will be much appreciated.
I’m trying to remove the smell of urine in my carpet.

Yes I have, I got it at Pet Smart. It is called Simple Solution. I used it my carpet cleaner along with the normal cleaner. It even gets out old odors. I have also used it just straight from the bottle. Works great!!
