The best cleaner for pet cages is plain, white vinegar. Just spray it, and wipe it away with a paper towel. It’s very cheap, safe, and disinfects better than any other cleaner marketed for pet cages. Vinegar also neutralizes odors. You can also use dish soap, water, and a sponge to scrub them clean in your bath tub.

I have two house dogs, a disabled daschund in a doggie wheelchair and a large beagle I adopted from the human society in June. The dascund doesn’t shed that bad, but the beagle is terrible!

I wouldn’t mind all that much, because I can just vacuum and wash her bedding, but she refuses to lay anywhere but the couch! The hair is impossible to vacuum off because of the type of material it is, and even with a sheet covering the couch its still all over it.

I looked up the Pledge Fabric Sweeper Pet Hair Remover, which sounds good, except that its disposable and I want something that I can use for a long time.

Any ideas?
The fabric sweeper IS disposable. On their website, it even says "Do not try to empty or take apart." You can only use it until the dome on top fills up, then you have to throw it out.

Best pet hair remover? A lint roller.

You can buy them at pet stores, but also drug stores, grocery stores, and probably Target and Walmart.

Lint rollers are also disposable…they each contain about 50 disposable sticky sheets. After you use them up, you throw the roller away. But they’re really cheap.

slowly ruining every carpet in the house. We’ve tried the obvious with having her urine tested, crate training, etc. There are no new events or changes in her life. A friend just told me tonight that there is a drug that can help them from haviing accidents.

My question, then, is 3-fold:

1) How would the drug be able to distinquish her urine as an accident?

2) Why hasn’t my vet heard about the drug if indeed it does exist,

3) iI not, does anyone know of an effective pet stain/odor removal product that really works?

Thanks!

Some smaller dogs often have trouble holding their urine but in many cases, because they’ve basically learned to potty in the house, the dog may not want to change it’s ways. Take the dog out frequently and reward it for using the bathroom outside; it’s tough to wait around for the dog to go sometimes because we’ve all got other things going on but stick with it and don’t go back in until the dog has urinated outside. Praise and reward immediately after the dog goes outside. You may have to reach back into puppyhood and go as far as keeping your girl on a leash with you at all times indoors so she learns she can’t run off and use the "indoor facilities".

As for cleaning, you need something with enzymes to break down the urine and get rid of the smell. There are plenty of these products available and you just need to make sure it’s safe for the surface you’re cleaning and, obviously, for your pet. Your vet may be able to recommend something.

There is a woman named Patricia McConnell who is a Ph.D. animal behaviorist who has a ton of information on her website and she has much of it in booklet form that is really affordable. She’s definitely a go to reference for me.

Finally, have your dog checked by your vet because sometimes medical conditions like urinary tract infections can cause animals to potty where they shouldn’t. My oldest dog, Hunter, was using the carpet in front of the door at night which was very unlike him. I had a hunch it was diabetes and, unfortunately, I was right. A condition causing your dog to urinate inside can be very serious and life threatening and may need to be addressed quickly.

Good luck and hang in there-she’s worth it!!!

Long link, I know, but I pasted it into my browser to check it and it worked.

I’ve used this pet stain and odor remover before, and I prefer the Unique Pet Odor and Stain Eliminator http://www.uniquedistributing.com/Pet-Odor-Stain-Eliminator/. I buy mine from Ace Hardware. I have 11 cats, and this is the best product I have ever found to use on cat urine and other pet stains.

The trend these days in product branding is to avoid having names with a functional meaning (names like WeeBegone or StainOut or Fresh’n, for example).

Before they developed these individual (and memorable) brand identities, could you have answered any of these Q’s?: What do you do with a Swiffer? What products does Altria make? What’s an I-pod? Why do I need Verizon? How do I Google?

I could go on and on. The strategy is to create a memorable word that’s easy to pronounce and then make it yours, and yours alone.

So craft a name like Preva, or Viatex, or PanTec, or Fraggle. Then make that word BECOME synonymous with the product function.

Got a stain?…FRAGGLE IT!

I can’t figure out why my dogs are suddenly not holding their bowels while we are away. They are still young, one is 4 years old and the other is not even 2. I’m frustrated that they keep having accidents again. Do I need to go back to crating them again? It seem that this all started when we were on a family vacation for more than a week. The person watching them didn’t watch them as well as maybe they should have. I’ve had the carpets professionally cleaned with pet stain removal services. Nothing seems to be working.

Could be a couple of things.. Your dogs could have a small infection causing it to be hard for them to hold it. Or two they have become stressed because you have been away.

I would go back to basic, get their houses out and slowly get them back into the grove of things again. Just remember not to scream at them or they will find a better hidden spot in your house to go.

I used a black light and am appalled at how much urine is in my carpets. I used an enzyme product on some of the areas (simple solutions) and it got rid of the odor but there is still a spot showing up under the black light, only much lighter. Is there any product that removes that completely or will they always show under the light? Does anyone know of a product I can use in my steam cleaner to clean my entire carpet that works on top of spot treating? The urine spots are everywhere and I would feel better if there was an enzyme cleaner I could put in the steamer to do larger areas. I feel gross even walking on my carpets now after what I have seen under the black light.

The only thing I’ve ever found that removes pet urine odor and stains is while vinegar. Dilute with water about 50%.

I was looking for a good pet stain remover and Nature’s Miracle seemed to be suggested a lot so I just had some questions. :)

1. How much is it?

2. How does it work? (ex. spray then soak or spray and leave it alone?)

3. Can you describe the stain before/after using it? Basically, is the stain completely gone after it’s dry?

4. Does it work on old stains? There are A LOT of old pet stains on my carpet and some of them have even turned gray. If it doesn’t work, I’d really appreciate another suggestion on getting rid of them, if that’s even possible. Thanks!

I just bought Urine Gone today and it worked wonders. It was $20.00 and came with a small black light that helped me track down any other areas where my cat may have left his "scent". You just spray it on and leave it alone. It has an enzyme that breaks down the urine. After it dries if you look with the black light then the yellow glow is no longer there. Sorry I don’t know anything about the Nature’s Miracle.

I just bought a house and need to redo the floors. The last owners obviously had a pet that didn’t get to go out often enough. I had a store give me an estimate and they said they won’t do carpet removal because of the pet stains. I can remove it myself but now I’m curious because of their refusal if there are hazards or something. Place was build in 2002 so carpet isn’t that old just dirty, stained, and stinky.

Ack. My last day as a carpet guy was was just such a job.

Cut the carpet out in strips and roll it up. The only hazards are tacks and the like. Old animal urine is as nasty as you would expect, but not exactly toxic. Wash up well, and you should have no trouble.

Does it work? I noticed that when I first put it where my puppy normally has his acidents, and as soon as he started sniffing he turned away and peed somewhere new… That means the stuff is working right?

I don’t see why people with puppies and housebreaking issues don’t realize they need to take their dog out for a walk….possibly a long one. puppies have lots of energy, and it doesn’t occur to them not to pee and poop outside. spend more time on the dog itself and less time worrying what stain remover is best. solve the problem first clean the carpet later.
