I currently am a soldier stationed in Germany and the stores around here don’t have anything to remove pet odors and stains from furniture. I have a party planned next weekend for friends returning from Iraq….HELP!
No there is no Glade Pet Fresh or anything like that around here. I had expected to find something at the store, but to my surprise…. nothing for pet odors and no time to order cleaner online because it would take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

I have been told white vinegar or ammonia. I tried them both when I had a cat that was "marking" and it didn’t last. It would smell better at first but the smell would come back. Someone told me it was because it was cat urine and that was a lot worse than dog urine? Can you get like Glade Pet Fresh? The powder or the spray is really good at getting just regular ol dog smell out.

I read on the bottle of the of pet stain remover that after you use it to clean up your pets little accident and remove the odor, it will actually deter them from peeing in that same spot again.

So my question is, if I buy a bottle and spray a coat all over the new carpet I am getting, will they just not ever pee on it to begin with?

No. When your pet has an accident, a smell is left that marks that spot as a good place to poop or pee. What the pet odor remover does is remove that smell, not repel the animal.

The best way to prevent them from ever peeing on the carpet to begin with is to be VERY scrupulous about keeping the litter box clean. If possible, give each cat their own box, or at very least have one for every two cats. Clean your litter box(es) at least once a day, preferably twice, and change out the litter regularly.

Clumping cat litter is best IMO. Not only is it easier on kitty paws, but because the pee is removed completely when you clean the box, the litter stays cleaner and you don’t have to change it as often.

There’s three main things that make a cat pee outside the box: 1) a dirty/unpleasant litter box (many cats don’t like those covered litter boxes or perfumed litters) 2) an unpleasant experience that the cat associates with the box (like another cat attacking them) or 3) territorial marking (usually males spraying on walls, curtains, furniture, etc – neutering usually fixes that in males).

I’ve recently been potty training two dogs and they’ve had many accidents and my house is starting to smell not so pleasant. I’ve been using soap and water but I’ve heard that there are special pet odor removers. That are suppose to get rid of the smell completely so that even the dog won’t go back to that spot and use the bathroom again. I was wondering what brands are the best and where I can get them from. Thanks.

Nature’s Miracle works every time I use it for all of my animals to clean their cages to clean up accidents everything most people don’t even know I have pets until they see them.

have a 900.sq ft condo. I am going to rent a Rug Doctor to clean the carpet in my hallway,my living room and my bedroom. I have a 3 yr old shih tzu who has unfortunately, peed on the carpet and has had an accident or two in the bedroom.
I plan on using the wide trac machine, seems faster..Any helpful hints/tips ,please? I’m also thinking I should buy their odor remover bio enzyme technology to put in the machine and oxy steam cleaning solution? Any helpful tips… if you have ever tried to clean your carpets before due to pets, would be helpful and appreciated!

Get the pet stain and odor remover from the pet dept of the grocery store or walmart. Use that on all the stains 24 hrs before using the rug dr. After cleaning the carpet go over it again with 25/75% white vinegar($2.50 gal in grocery store)and hot water. This will eliminate odors and get rid of any residue on the carpet.
Follow the directions on the pet stain and odor remover. It contains enzymes that "eat" the pet urine. Be sure to let it soak into the padding.

well, my mom bought one of those pet hair removers from pledge, and she would like to know if you through them away, and how to remove the pethair when it gets full.

Doesn’t it have instructions on the label?

ETA: it says right on the website to not try to disassemble or empty it. http://www.pledge.com/fabric-sweeper/

Does anyone know a homemade recipe for a urine/odor remover or a website that could help me out. Thanks!

I can tell you what to use in the house to remove ordors and and even helps stop marking issues. Just white vinegar. White vinegar will actually soak through the urine and eliminate any ordors. You can even set an open cup of it in your vehicle to remove mildew smells if it were to get wet. I have had animals in the house my whole life, but it wasnt until becoming a landlord I realized how bad urine smells can be. I shampoo the carpet with it before each new rented and have never had anyone smell the urine. It is cheap and has lots of uses. Spray it directly on the spot and where ever they maybe using. If the smell is very bad, leave an open bowl of it out in the room over night. You will notice a difference. I hope this helps. I have heard to dilute it, but I never have. Since it is safe and nontoxic, I didnt understand the need to dilute it, unless I was using it on living things. It also will eat rust off of metal, if soaked in it. We clean our horse bits and stuff in it. Shines them right up.

that really work?

I have a (now pottie trained) pup. When he would have his "accidents", I would use 1 gallon of warm water, 1 cup of white vinegar, and a splash of liquid detergent. Rub it on the stain and blot it dry. That worked very well for me. It got rid of the odor too! Good luck!

I’m looking for some carpet stain removers that really work. I have beige carpet and my cats are constantly throwing up hairballs on it and staining it. None of the products I have used work well.

Any recommendations? Thank you!

I have a darker shade of beige for my carpet and I just dilute Pinsole (diluted with water just til it’s a light yellow it does have a strongish smell but that goes away in like a couple hours) and spray that on my carpet and wipe it out with a paper towel and usually that works. If that doesnt work for you, you can also go to a local pet store and as the employees, most of them usually know which product is best and what method too.

I came across a web site today advertising a brand of pet urine stain remover, where the Company owner advocates declawing. (What an appropriate way of creating business for themselves!)

As I like to purchase cruelty-free products, can anyone advise me where I might find a list of manufacturers or suppliers of pet care products who are pro-declawing? I’d hate to think I was putting money in the pocket of any Company with that opinion.

Thanks in advance.
Don’t know who’s giving the thumbs down – I guess the trolls haven’t gone to bed yet.

CF – Thanks for the link. I’ve just posted a comment there.

If anyone wants to know the name of the product that I found, contact me by e-mail and I’ll be happy to forward the link on to you.

We have an anti declawing group and petition but as we are in England where declawing is banned we don’t have a list of pro declaw companies to boycott but we will certainly try to find out about them if we can.
