The best cleaner for pet cages is plain, white vinegar. Just spray it, and wipe it away with a paper towel. It’s very cheap, safe, and disinfects better than any other cleaner marketed for pet cages. Vinegar also neutralizes odors. You can also use dish soap, water, and a sponge to scrub them clean in your bath tub.

Any spray or additive will merely mask the odor. If the cage smells you need to change the bedding and clean the cage itself. The frequency of cage cleaning should be dictated by the cleanliness of the cage rather than a schedule. If you can smell the cage the smell is already overpowering for your pet.

The smaller the cage, the more frequently it will need to be cleaned.

I know Walmart sells a deodrizer for cleaning cages. However, I clean my hamster cages with dish soap or little bit of bleach. However it is vital that you rinse several times!! Hope this helps.

The cleaners that they sell in the pet stores are so expensive. They aren’t that big either. I have come up with a concoction of my own that is very inexpensive and very safe. I used a mixture of half vinegar and half water. It works very well and I have used it for years.
